Forever one (Class of ‘71) words by Rick Dible
For the Carey High School Class of 1971 – 55th Reunion
On South Street stood our old brick school,
Where small town kids all learned life’s rules.
We laughed and loved, we dreamed out loud,
Young and hopeful, happy and proud.
Friday night lights and the marching band,
Holding on to dreams in our hearts and hands.
Back in the spring of ‘71,
We all dreamed of what we’d become
We were one hundred and three, wild and free,
Growing up in the small town of Carey.
Through the smiles and the tears, through the passing years,
Those memories still ring so loud and clear.
No matter where this life has led
South Street’s still alive inside our heads.
We’re still that Class of ‘71,
And our story’s far from being done.
Some raised families, some chased dreams,
Life’s not always what it seems.
We’ve known victories, we’ve known pain,
Sunshine days and pouring rain.
Some dear classmates have gone before,
But they’re in our hearts forevermore.
When we call the roll today,
Their memories will never fade away.
The years may leave us a little gray,
But they can’t take away our yesterday.
One smile, one laugh, one old friend’s face,
And we’re right back in that special place.
We’re still one hundred and three at heart,
Though miles and years have kept us apart.
The bonds we made have stood the test,
Time has proved they were the best.
So raise a glass to yesterday,
To every friend along the way.
And as our voices rise once more,
Just like they did so long before…
“All hail to our Carey High School…”
We’ll sing with pride, both loud and true,
For the White and the Blue.
Here’s to the Class of ’71
Forever friends… forever one.
